Time Machine Folder Copy

Hi,

Is it possible to copy files into a time machine folder? I have old backups, but a new time machine and I would like the old backups to be stored on it in the actual time machine directory labeled Backups.backupdb. I says it can't be modified, but I wasn't sure if there was a workaround?
